We are going to use a simple keyword system to help you remember and distinguish these first 7 consonants. The keywords will also help you remember them together as a group, which will be important later.
It may feel a little strange at first, but these keywords are connected to the real Thai names of the consonants. The Thai word shown on each card is the actual Thai name used for that consonant.
For now, the goal is simply to recognize and differentiate these 7 consonants on sight. You do not need to worry too much about the sounds just yet.

chicken

This one's easy. It looks like the head of a bird!
fish

Imagine a fishhook except it's a bit squared up rather than round. The little circle on the hook can be the bait.

Imagine a turtle with a long dent/crevice running down the back of its shell.

Using your imagination you might see this as a bucket or a basket. Now all we need to do is fill it up with leaves.
plate

Imagine you dropped that plate on the ground and picked up the largest remaining shard — it looks mysteriously like this letter. Close your eyes for 10 seconds and picture it.
basin
Mnemonic
Think of the basin as a large barrel of water with a lid that's partially open.
This letter is special — it can serve as both a consonant and a vowel.
Make sure you've read through the consonants above a couple of times, then spend a few minutes drilling here until you can remember them all before moving on to the next lesson.
